Concept

The mission of Yokoyama Direct Method (YDM) is to promote global exchange and cross-cultural understanding through language education accessible to anyone, and integrate language, culture and technology into a comprehensive educational system that is not confined to any specific nationality.
YDM allows learning a new language in a shorter time and with a higher efficiency.

Summary

YDM, The Yokoyama Direct method, based on Founder Nobuko Yokoyama’s over thirteen years of experience and research in language education, is a method of teaching foreign language by specially trained native instructors. YDM is an integrated system of language education, which allows quick and effective acquisition of command of foreign languages as well as an overall understanding of the culture and customs associated with the languages.

Features

YDM is readily adapted to different languages because of its theory based, specially developed textbooks and supplemental materials, and has seen success in its application to English and Chinese. With YDM, anyone over the age of six an learn foreign languages effectively and without difficulty regardless of gender or experience. YDM requires no special language ability on the instructor’s part because his/her own first language is the only language necessary to teach and manage students whose first language may vary.

Lessons

The core of the lesson is sentence-pattern practice in the dialogue format that emphasizes look, listen and respond. Each lesson is programmed so that the basic sentence patterns and grammar can be systematically mastered through natural conversation practice.
Each lesson progresses through presentation, practice and review, so both the instructor and the students can check their understanding and mastery of the material at any time.

Textbooks

Textbooks feature many illustrations to highlight target sentence patterns and vocabulary. Cultural topics and customs are embedded in the conversations and everyday situations depicted by the textbook characters to foster understanding of the country (or countries) in which the target language is spoken.
Illustrations and sentences are systematically laid out so that affirmative sentences , negative sentences, new vocabulary, and etc. are easily recognized.

What the Yokoyama Direct Method Aims for

Looking back on the history of the world, the official language has been linked to the world's economy, military and culture.
In the Greek era, Greek became the official language, and in the Roman era, Greek culture was so prosperous that it could not be the official language. Before World War II, English was the official language because Britain colonized the countries of the world, but after the war, the United States became the world's economic, cultural, and military leader, so the American language became public. It became a term. However, with the advent of the global era, the economies of Asia and Africa have developed, and the demand for Japanese culture and Japanese has expanded worldwide instead of Western culture.

After teaching Japanese at Cornell University, I got a hint while studying Hebrew, developed Yokoyama-style direct method (hereinafter referred to as YDM) teaching method software (OS), and published a textbook. However, in the text, (1) all grammar was used as conversational sentences, (2) the conversational sentences were drawn with pictures (teaching materials), and (3) teaching methods (OS) were introduced and commercialized, so the learners drew situational conversations. By repeatedly practicing according to the OS while looking at the picture, the picture becomes an afterimage and is memorized in the brain, so that the child can talk as if he / she remembers the words. In addition, YDM Teaching Method (OS) allows you to learn teaching method in just one day, so those who have taken teaching method can use the textbook anytime, anywhere, anyone, Japanese / It is possible to teach English only in Japanese / English.

I lost everything due to the cancellation of the joint venture with Yaohan, and when I asked the IC card developer at Mondex in the UK, "What should YDM prepare for the future?" Draw TV and mobile phones, "In the era of broadband, the fusion of communication technology and broadcasting technology will enable two-way distance education. The features and advantages of the YDM teaching method are that even teachers can use online apps. However, even a robot with software is ideal as a self-study material if it learns according to the teaching materials. "
I believed the word and was able to devote myself to preparing for online education. Although the global business and inbound business have collapsed due to the violence of this coronavirus, the YDM business will continue to expand the world of ground warfare and aerial warfare as AI education business and online education.
In the future internationalization of Japan, the most important thing is the dissemination and exchange of human elements, education and culture, and language education is the other side of learning foreign countries and at the same time learning their own language and culture. The aim of YDM is to spread the Japanese language (Japanese culture) by providing the ability to adapt to the Japanese language. YDM will spread the Cultural Communication Society of Languages to the world, properly grasp the role of Japan in the trend of hollowing out of Japan, and move forward to become a leader in the internationalization of Japan.

We sincerely appreciate your guidance and encouragement.
